Sky has a team dedicated to preventing 'email abuse' - bulk and unsolicited email, threatening or damage-causing emails such as mail-bombing, harassment, and fraudulent email scams. Perhaps the most common of these is 'spam', which tries to sell you products or services you've not requested and don't want.
Don't open any emails you weren't expecting, don't open anything if you don't know who it's from, or anything you think is spam – just delete them. Definitely don't open any links or attachments, as these are where most viruses are passed on.
Sky will take firm action against any customer we find sending bulk emails. Sky has several technical solutions in place to help reduce how much spam reaches your inbox. However, spammers use ever-more cunning ways of avoiding these filters, so some unwanted email may still reach you. Even so, there are ways to minimise your exposure.
Installing anti-spam software is key. Sky Customers have access to McAfee Security Suite, which protects PCs from spam.
If you have received a spam email from anywhere, and you feel you'd like to report it, you can do so to the abuse team within the relevant Internet Service Provider (ISP). The email addresses to report it to will usually be abuse@'ISPname'
To report email abuse and spamming issues involving sky.com only, please send your email to abuse@sky.com and attach any spam emails you're reporting. Only report spam or fraud emails to Sky if the email originated from one of our customers. You can confirm this from the email header information.
(Be careful, however, as sometimes spammers 'disguise' their emails to make it look like they came from somewhere else. It's always best to check the email header if possible. There are websites that can help identify email headers, and where you can report spam if you're not sure which Internet Service Provider it's come from.)
