Sky Broadband wireless network security

Wireless networks are a very convenient way to share your Internet connection, files and printers with the computers in your home. With a wireless network, you are no longer tied to your desktop computer. You can surf the Web, access emails and communicate with friends and family anywhere you can receive a wireless network signal.

The wireless signals are not limited by the walls of your home. In fact they can often extend more than 300 metres from your wireless router and therefore can be seen by other people with a wireless enabled PC. The Sky Broadband wireless router has been designed to use a secure encryption technology (called WPA-PSK) and we pre-configure the wireless security with a default password when you first install your Broadband router. By default, our routers’ wireless security is “on” - which is not the standard practice from most Broadband providers. We do this because your Broadband security is very important to us.

To improve your security even further we recommend you change the default password by following the steps in our help guide, Change your Sky Broadband wireless router settings, or turn off wireless if you don’t use it.
