Reduce the energy used by your computer and broadband router
Using your computer efficiently doesn't just benefit the environment - it can save you money! According to the Carbon Trust, a typical PC (including monitor) left on for 24 hours each day can use more than £60 of energy per year.
Turned completely off each night and at weekends, it will only use around £15 of energy per year.
Sky’s broadband router uses about six watts of electricity to function, which results in an electricity cost of about £4 per year and carbon dioxide emissions of around 22kg per year. You can reduce this by switching your wireless router off during long periods when it’s not required, such as family holidays. It's not recommended, however, to switch your router on and off on a frequent basis.
Manually switching off the unused monitors, using equipment that enters low power mode after a period of inactivity and other simple energy management techniques can save a further £10.
