Switching from another broadband provider

Switching to Sky

Sky Broadband is exclusively available to Sky TV customers.

To make the switch to Sky Broadband simple, first make sure it's available in your area using our postcode checker, then just follow these steps:

1. First book and install Sky TV, if you don't already have it
Order Sky Broadband and Sky Talk at the same time. Your Sky equipment will need to be connected to an active phone line to enable you to access our interactive TV services.

2. Contact your current provider to get a Migration
Authorisation Code (MAC)

You should be able to get this within 5 working days. It's best to have your MAC ready when you book online but if you don't have it you can still continue with your order now and phone us with it within 6 weeks of ordering on 08442 410 709. Your broadband will not be activated until this is supplied.

3. Give us a call to activate Sky Broadband and Sky Talk
Once you have your MAC, call us as soon as possible on 08442 410 709 as it expires in 30 days. Then give us 14 days and we will set everything up for you, if you are a new Sky TV customer. You should provide your MAC code within 6 weeks of placing your TV order, otherwise you will need to pay our standard activation fee for existing customers, which ranges from £0-75.

4. We'll let you know when your Sky Broadband will go live
We'll send you a letter telling you what date your Sky Broadband will go live. You should only be without internet access for between 30 minutes and 2 hours on the day of the switchover, which could take place at any time up until midnight of that date.

How do I get a MAC?

Simply call your current provider and ask them for a MAC to move your broadband services to Sky. They should provide this to you within 5 working days. Make sure you call us with it as soon as you can as the code will expire after 30 days. Below are some useful phone numbers for broadband providers to help you with requesting your MAC. Alternatively if you would prefer to write to your provider to request the code, download one of our pre-written MAC letters to get you started.

Transferring from a fully unbundled provider

What does this mean? If you are with a non-BT provider who has taken over the telephone line and the broadband and moved them to their own exchange (called Local Loop Unbundled) then you are with a fully unbundled provider (companies like Talk Talk provide such lines). This means you are a non-cable customer with a non-BT line wanting to transfer to Sky.

If this is the case you will be recognised as a cable customer when you use the Sky telephone checker as you don’t have a number recognised as a telephone line on the BT network, which you need in order to get Sky Broadband. To get Sky Broadband in this instance, check that it’s available in your area using our postcode checker and then follow the steps below:

1. First book and install Sky TV if you don't already have it
Sky Broadband is exclusively available to Sky TV customers so you will need to choose a TV package to suit you before ordering your Broadband package.

2. Contact your current telephone line provider to request a
cancellation of your service

Your provider can take up to 5 days to arrange this.

3. Call BT on 0808 100 5152 to get your phone line reactivated,
or order online at www.bt.com

If you want to get Sky Talk on this line, make sure you choose BT’s Weekend Plan Option 1. BT will advise you of time frames and costs.

4. Call us to order Sky Broadband and Sky Talk
Once your BT phone line’s been activated and is working, you’ll need to wait 5 working days before calling us. We’ll help you choose the right products and send you our ‘Get Started’ kit to help you get online.

5. We’ll let you know when your Sky Broadband will go live
You will receive a letter to advise you when your Sky Broadband will go live.
